6 x 9 Rug Pads
What type of rug pad you’ll need for your 6x9 rug will depend a bit on its weight and thickness as well as where you’re placing it. For most 6x9 rugs, you’ll likely want some balance of grip and cushion. Look for pads that combine felt cushioning with natural rubber, the strongest gripping, longest lasting, safest and most eco-friendly material for keeping rugs lying flat and in place.
For thinner, lighter-weight rugs like flatweaves consider a strong-gripping pad like Rug Pro, a low-profile, high-performance pad that works particularly well in high traffic areas and wherever door clearance may be an issue and/or you’d like your rugs to lie flat and flush with the floor. This pad’s solid design offers more floor coverage than traditional waffle-style non-slip pad, keeping dirt from accumulating and reaching your floors and making vacuuming easier, effectively extending the life of your 6x9 rug by helping to keep it clean.
If you’d like a bit of cushion under your 6x9 rugs but still need to keep a relatively low profile, consider Contour Lock. This 1/8 inch-thick felt and rubber pad offers a strong grip and moderate levels of cushioning without bulking. This pad offers a great overall value for reliable grip and subtle cushioning.
For more cushion, particularly under 6x9 rugs in living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms, there’s Superior Lock, combining the best of both grip and cushion. Made with more felt and a gentle heat-pressing technique, Superior Lock offers unyielding, non-slip traction with thick, cushioned support. It’s essentially a thick layer of felt combined with a thinner non-slip, natural rubber pad. The needle-punched felt surface naturally clings to the bottom of rugs to anchor it to its surface, giving your rugs the ‘hug’ they need while giving you extra softness and comfort in two thicknesses, 1/4 inch and 7/16 inch, the best choice for maximum comfort under 6x9 rugs.
Customer Questions & Answers
I am looking for two kinds of pads: one for a runner and one for a 6'x 9' rug on hardwood floors. Both pads should have sound reducing properties.
Our Superior Lock 7/16" thickness is a great pad for sound dampening and is suitable for your runner and your rug. It will help to greatly reduce noises within your home while also keeping neighboring noises out.
I need a breathable pad due to Florida’s humidity. I’m interested in the all felt pad because of the cushioning but our cats have accidents and I’m not sure how to get urine out of felt. We also need a custom cut for a 6x9 rug. What do you suggest?
I suggest our Anchor Grip rug pad, which is made from a soybean oil-based polymer blend. This pad is waterproof with a liquid resistant barrier that temporarily prevents spills and pet accidents from reaching floors. In all honesty, urine is a tough liquid to clean, but when you do clean your pad we recommend blotting it. Anchor Grip is a low-profile pad with exceptional non-slip traction and comfortable cushioning. And we can custom cut it to fit your rug.
What kind of pad should I use for a 6x9 feet area rug that is 100% polypropylene? It is on a tile floor in a low use area.
The best pad for your needs depends on whether there will be furniture on your rug. If so, you probably won't be too concerned about slipping so I suggest Eco Plush for its lush cushioning. If you haven't put any furniture on the rug, take a look at our Superior Lock. This pad provides both comfort and a strong foundation that will prevent your rug from moving, creeping and bunching
Can I put a rug pad under a latex-backed 6' by 9' rug to prevent damage to hardwood floors?
Yes, you can. I would suggest our Contour Lock or Anchor Grip rug pads. Both of these low-profile pads have solid gripping power, and will protect your hardwood from damage.
I have just bought a 6' x 9' Bosphorus Faded Tribal Cartouche Medallion Rug that's to go vinyl plank flooring. What pad do you suggest and how thick should it be? I am looking for something with cushioning.
We only sell two types of pad for vinyl flooring and they are Anchor Grip and Eco Plush. Anchor Grip is a non-slip pad which is what you will need for a rug your size otherwise it will slip. Eco Plush comes in three different thicknesses but it is not a non-slip pad. You can also contact your floor manufacturer and ask if natural rubber is okay to use. If so, then I can recommend Superior Lock 7/16". This has a lot of cushion and it is also a non-slip pad.
Do I order a 6' x 9' rug pad for a 6' x 9' rug? Or should I go smaller?
Just enter 6' x 9' and we will cut and trim the pad so that it fits your rug.
We have a 6' by 9' Karastan wool rug on a hardwood floor that we lay on every night, so we need a pad with the best cushioning possible. What do you suggest?
Cloud Comfort is the softest pad we sell, but my only concern is that it is not a non-slip pad. If you are confident your rug won’t move then this will be the best pad for you. Alternatively, I suggest the non-slip Superior Lock rug pad at 7/16" thickness.
I bought a 6 feet x 9 feet oval educational rug. Should I get the 1/4" thick Cloud Comfort foam pad or something thinner?
The 1/4" thickness would be okay for you. However, Cloud Comfort is not a non-slip pad and a rug your size will be more prone to slipping. Maybe a better choice of pad would be 1/4" Superior Lock. This felt and natural rubber pad will provide some cushion and grip.
I have a 6x9ft thin cotton rug on a hardwood floor and would like to know what the best pad is for it.
The Contour Lock or Superior Lock 1/4" are perfect for you. Both will keep your rug firmly in place. Choose Superior Lock if you want more cushioning as well.
What are the best pads to buy to keep a 6' x 9' rug secure on carpet?
Carpet Lock is the only pad we recommend for rugs on carpet. It is a felt and natural rubber pad with excellent non-slip traction that keeps rugs stable and lying flat.
What is better for a 6' x 9' rug on a laminate floor: Eco Plush or Superior Lock?
Superior Lock would be the best choice since this felt and natural rubber pad is non-slip. It will also give you a good level of comfortable cushioning.
I am looking for a 6ft x 9ft pad to go under an area rug in my dining room but I don't want a non-skid pad. We have a pedestal table that is too heavy to lift and so if I need to move it I want to be able to slide it on the rug and pad.
Yes, there is. Our 100% all felt pad is ideal for you. It is called Eco Plush, and it has no gripping attribute.
Which type of rug pad would be best for a 6 feet by 9 feet Turkish (oriental) runner on the hardwood floor of an entrance hall?
I would recommend a thinner pad for your runner. My first suggestion is RugPro which is the thinnest pad we have. It is also the pad with the strongest grip. My second suggestion is Contour Lock which is 1/8” thick and also benefits from a powerful grip. Both pads are made of felt and natural rubber and are just what you need in high-traffic areas such as entrances and hallways.
If my rug has a fringe on the longer side, do I include the fringe in the measurement I send?
No, there is no need to include the fringe when placing an order. Just enter your rug's exact dimensions without the fringe and we will custom cut a perfect fitting rug pad for you.
I want to get a thin flat weave rug that is 6' by 9'. The only furniture on it will be a coffee table. I would like a pad to add comfort and to stop the rug from constantly slipping. Is the memory foam pad a good choice?
No, the Cloud Comfort memory foam pad would not be a good choice. While it will give you lots of cushioning it is not a non-slip pad. The best choice for you is the Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad which has both gripping and cushioning.
