100% Felt Rug Pads

Choosing a Felt Rug Pad

Felt rug pads offer a dense, comfortable layer of cushion for larger rugs that do not need a non-slip pad. Our felt rug pads are available in three different thicknesses; 1/4", 1/3", and 7/16", so you can choose how much cushioning you want.

Benefits of Felt Rug Pads

When it comes to choosing the best rug pad material for your rug needs, it's important to consider all the benefits of different rug padding so you can find the right rug pad. While you'll get a quality rug pad with all our rug pad options, a felt cushioned rug pad have certain benefits (and drawbacks) you'll want to consider.

The best time to consider a 100% felt rug pad? If you have a larger area rug. Here's why.

Floor Protection

A felted rug pad protects floors from dents and scratches from heavy furniture legs and prevents abrasions from rough rug backings.

Certain rug types, especially handmade and jute, can scratch floors so you should always pair them with a felt rug pad.

Rug Longevity

Felt rug pads will help prolong your rug's life. How? The rug padding alleviates stress from foot traffic and everyday wear and tear. It also serves as a protective buffer from dirt, the number one cause of rug degradation.

Insulation & Soundproofing

Felt rug pads offer insulation and act as a dense sound barrier to mute floor noise. This is great for multistory homes and apartments.

In addition to felt, we offer a wide selection of cushioned rug pads in other various materials that might suit your needs.

All our felt rug pads use recycled synthetic fibers from new unused carpet fibers and yarn that go easy on your hard floor and rug fibers, and don't give off toxins. The Eco Plush rug pad line uses heat-pressed felt without any chemicals or adhesives so they are safe and don't give off any unpleasant odors.

When Not to Get a 100% Felt Rug Pad

Of course, there are times when a different type of rug pad will suit your needs better.

Primarily, that's if you need a non slip rug pad. If you have a smaller rug or lighter area rug in a high-traffic area, getting a non slip pad should be one of your primary concerns and our 100% felt pads do not offer any floor grip.

So what should you get instead?

If you want a rug pad that combines non slip qualities and cushion, we recommend a felt and natural rubber rug pad. This type of pad is safe for most hard surface flooring, will grip your floor without sticking to it, and uses natural fiber. We don't use synthetic rubber, so you know you'll get a quality rug pad that won't damage flooring like tile floor or new hardwood floors.

Alternative Cushioned Rug Pad

If felt doesn't seem like the right type of cushioned pad for you, but you have a large area rug that doesn't need non slip grip, you may want to consider a memory foam rug pad. These pads offer premium cushioning like what you would find in a mattress and are safe for most floors.

Customer Questions & Answers

  • Do I need a non-slip pad or a cushion pad?

Non-slip pads are best for high-traffic areas such as foyers and hallways, where thin rugs and runners are prone to slipping and sliding. Our cushion pads add a plush layer for large rugs already anchored by furniture, such as living and dining rooms. Should you decide you need a degree of both grip and cushioning, opt for a felt and rubber pad.

  • What rug pad is best for sisal rugs on hardwood floors, in front of doors?

We would suggest RugPro. It's a felt and rubber pad that's only 1/16th of an inch thick.

  • What kind of pad do you recommend for vinyl planks?

Most vinyl floor manufacturers state you cannot use a pad made with rubber, latex or coco fiber. This can make finding the right pad difficult. Check out our felt pads - they are 100% recycled felt made from unused carpet fibers and yarn. If your looking for a low profile pad or need non-slip protection we offer a vinyl pad called Anchor Grip. This vinyl pad is made with soybean oils & bio based fillers and does not contain any plasticizers or rubber/latex. We always suggest that you contract your floor manufacturer to see what materials will work best with your floor or finish.

  • Are your felt + rubber pads safe to use on hardwood floors?

Yes. Our Felt + Rubber rug pads are tested and approved for use on all types of hardwood floors. Just make sure you follow flooring manufacturer's instructions and don’t use any rug pads for approximately 2-4 weeks after refinishing your floors.

  • Do your rug pads produce any odors?

Our rug pads will not mold or mildew and are completely odor-free. We always make sure all of our rug pads have been properly aired and cured before shipping.
