3 x 5 Rug Pads
3x5 rugs and most smaller throw rugs and runners require rug pads with strong grip to keep them from slipping and sliding, particularly in high-traffic and high-use areas where smaller rugs are generally placed. For 3x5 rugs, grip is generally more important than cushion, though some non-slip rug pads also offer a bit of cushion. Look for pads with the lowest profile and the strongest grip.
For 3x5 rugs placed in front of doors, in hallways, or anywhere that door clearance is an issue, we suggest Rug Pro, the lowest-profile solid design rubber and felt pad, needle-punched using very small holes to allow rugs and floors to breathe by improving airflow.
Nature’s Grip is another great, low-profile choice for 3x5 rugs that need to lie completely flush with floors. This 100% eco-friendly pad weds hand-woven organic jute fibers with natural rubber to maximize your 3x5 rug’s stability, extend its life, and protect your flooring Naturally safer than plastic non-skid pads, Nature’s Grip naturally grips to floors rather than sticking to them.
For 3x5 rugs placed in front of sinks, next to beds, or anywhere you’d like a bit of subtle cushion under foot, consider Super Lock Natural. This classic waffle-style pad, made with over 1 pound of natural rubber per square yard, is still thin enough to keep 3x5 rugs in place, lying flat. But its waffle design offers a bit of cushion that won’t compress over time. Because it’s made with natural rubber, it will never outgas, stick to, stain, or strip floors the way that plastic pads made with synthetic adhesives can.
Customer Questions & Answers
I recently bought four Superior Lock pads for the oriental rugs on my hardwood floors. I now wish to buy rug pads for braided wool rugs in high traffic areas. Three of the rugs measure 3ft x 5ft. Will the same pad work well for these?
Yes, it will. But something thinner may work better if you need clearance. You could look at RugPro or Contour Lock. Both are low-profile felt and natural rubber non-slip pads. RugPro is 1/16" thick and Contour Lock is 1/8" thick.
Which of your rug pads are recommended for 3x5 bath rugs? That is, they are okay in a wet environment and are good on a tile floor.
I would recommend Anchor Grip since it is waterproof or you could look at Super Lock Natural which will work just as well. Both non-slip pads have a powerful grip that will stop your rugs from slipping on the tile floor.
My 3' 1/2" x 5' wool rug is at the bottom of my stairs on a marble floor. It has a cheap rug pad under it and is constantly sliding across the floor and off the pad. Plus, the pad bunches up. What kind of pad do you recommend for keeping it in place?
I recommend Contour Lock, a low-profile non-slip pad made of felt and natural rubber. It is just 1/8" thick and will stop your rug from sliding and slipping off the pad. Contour Lock also prevents bunching and wrinkling.
What is the best pad for a 3'3" x 5'3" wool rug that is 1/2" thick and sits on a hardwood floor? Slipping is a concern.
I would go with our Superior Lock 1/4" rug pad. It has a strong and reliable grip that prevents slipping and sliding.
What are advantages and disadvantages of Superior Lock 1/4 inch v. Comfortrip for smal lDhurrie style rugs (36 by 60 inches)?
Our Superior-Lock is well-suited for your purposes.. It anchors your rug firmly to the floor while providing a thick layer of cushioned support . Our Comfort-Grip is for higher end rugs . They are both great pads and there is no real disadvantage to either unless you are trying to save mone. If that is the case, the Comfort-Grip pad is about $13.60 more than the Superior-Lock pad.
I have just installed Lumber Liquidators Antique Strand Bamboo Flooring and need a non-slip pad for my 3' x 5' entry rug. What is your recommendation?
I would take a look at our Anchor Grip or Contour Lock rug pads. Both are low-profile pads with incredible non-slip traction. They will stop your entry rug from moving when it is being walked on. Anchor Grip is a soybean oil-based polymer blend while Contour Lock is made of felt and natural rubber.
What rug pad do you suggest for a 5x3 area rug on an oak floor?
I would say the Contour Lock non-slip pad for that size rug. This is a recycled felt and natural rubber rug pad that keeps rugs in place, preventing slipping, sliding, wrinkling and other types of movement.
What is the best pad for a 3ft x 5ft cloth rag rug that's next to a bed on an oak floor? I was thinking RugPro because it won't add height to the "lumpy" rug.
For your rug and floor, I suggest RugPro or Super Lock Natural. Neither will bulk up the rug and they'll both stop it from moving.
I need a pad for a small front door entry rug made of jute that is moving all over the place. I would like a thin felt and natural rubber pad so what do you recommend?
I would suggest Contour Lock or Rugpro. Our Contour Lock rug pad is 1/8" thick and RugPro is 1/16". Both have a super strong grip that will ensure your rug stays in place when it is being walked on.
How well do rubber-backed rugs grip? I have 3x5 and 4x5 front door runners that move.
They should grip, although we usually don't recommend using them only because most of time the rubber is usually of lesser quality and so they damage floors.
We need rug pads for two 3' x 5' area rugs on hardwood floors. I am interested in your Super Lock Natural rubber pads and wonder if homeowners can easily trim them?
Yes, with a good pair of shears Super Lock Natural is a pretty easy pad to cut at home. Just be careful.
I am looking for a non-skid pad for a 3 feet x 5 feet braided rug on a hardwood floor. What do you recommend?
RugPro would be an excellent choice for you. This low-profile felt and natural rubber pad is the strongest gripping pad we carry. Your rug is going nowhere.
What do you suggest for a 3' x 5' rug on the tile floor of a bathroom?
I recommend Nature's Grip, a natural rubber and natural plant jute pad with a very powerful grip. It will stop your rug from slipping and sliding out of place.
Can you tell me if the Superior Lock 1/4" pad is mildew resistant and okay to go under wool rugs?
The answer to both your questions is yes. Superior Lock Natural is mildew resistant and it is safe for all types of rugs including wool.
