10 x 14 Rug Pads

For 10 x14 rugs, in general, we suggest rug pads with more cushion than grip. Such large rugs are often anchored down by their own weight or by surrounding furniture, so they don’t generally need a non-slip pad.

Because 10 x14 rugs are most often placed in rooms like living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and dens, where you and your family spend the most time and where comfort and cushion are most desired, cushioned rug pads can be the best option.

Solid design, cushioned pads also protect floors from wear, dirt, scratches and stains while protecting rugs from tears and indentations caused by heavy furniture and offering a bit of soundproofing and insulation.

There are a variety of options available according to how much cushion and lift you’d like. Among the best choices for 10 x14 rugs, Eco-Plush pads are woven of 100% recycled felt made from new unused carpet fibers and yarn, heat-pressed to last longer and feel softer than outdated jute rug pads that can wear easily and cause unpleasant odors; unlike synthetic pads, eco-friendly Eco Plush pads are 100% safe on all floors; they contain no glues, bonding agents, or adhesives that can outgas and ruin floors. Eco Push pads are available in 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4" thicknesses, depending on how much cushion you and lift you want.

For the ultimate in luxurious cushioning under 10 x14 rugs, Cloud Comfort pads are made from the same high-quality visco-elastic memory foam found in premium mattresses. Made with natural minerals and soybean oils vs. petro oils for a very low VOC content, Cloud Comfort pads are 100% safe and eco-friendly. Their proprietary moisture barrier protects floors by blocking spills while allowing vapor to escape. It offers the highest levels of sound absorption, comfort and insulation available in a rug pad and is available in 1/4 and 7/16" thicknesses.

One exception to the general rule with 10 x14s: for thin and fine rugs, such as flatweaves that tend to wrinkle and buckle, you may want to consider rug pads made with a combination of rubber for grip and felt for cushion, like Superior-Lock, thick cushioned felt with a reinforced rubber backing, available in 1/4" and 7/16" and Contour Lock, a 1/8" thick felt and rubber rug pad that offers a strong grip and moderate levels of cushioning without bulking. Contour Lock protects floors from scratching and rug backings, so it’s particularly well-suited to flat-woven 8x11 rugs such as Kilims, Dhurries, and Soumaks. These pads offer the comfort of cushioned pads but keep thinner rugs laying smooth and flat. And because they’re made from natural rubber, they won’t ever stick to, mark, or stain floors finishes.

Customer Questions & Answers

  • What rug pad do you suggest for a 10x14 rug under a dining room table on a hardwood floor?

I would take a look at our Contour Lock pad. This is a low-profile 1/8" thick pad with a strong grip that also provides long-term floor protection and underfoot cushioned comfort without bulking.

  • Can you recommend a good rug pad for sound insulation? My rug is 10x14 and sits on a hardwood floor in an apartment with a grand piano.

I would take a look at our Superior Lock 7/16" or Eco Plush 1/2". Either of these pads will significantly reduce the noise levels coming from your apartment. Both sell very well to customers wanting sound insulation. We recently sold a Superior Lock 7/16" to a drummer.

  • I have a 10' x 14' rug on a limestone floor. My question is, do I order a rug pad that will be a little smaller or do you adjust for that? I would like a pad that sits back a little from the edge.

What you need to do is put in the exact measurements, and we will cut accordingly. We cut 1" all the way around so your rug will fit perfectly.

  • We are going to use an 10ft x 14ft piece of carpet as a rug on a high-end laminate floor. Which pad will protect the floor from scratches if the rug moves?

The Contour Lock rug pad would work best for you. This low-profile felt and natural rubber pad is 1/8" thick and has an excellent grip that will keep your rug in place and prevent its backing from making contact with your floor.

  • I’ve purchased a 10'x 14' rubber-backed seagrass rug for a hardwood floor. It won't move because there’ll be furniture on it so I don't need a non-slip pad. I am looking for a pad to protect the floor finish from the rug. What do you recommend?

As you will have furniture on the rug, I recommend the generous cushioning and comfort of Eco Plush. This durable pad is made of 100% recycled felt and will form a protective barrier between the rug and the floor that will protect the hardwood for many years. Eco Plush is non-toxic and contains no chemicals or adhesives that could ruin your flooring.
