Customer Questions & Answers
Which floor types is Spilltech safe to use on?
Our SpillTech pads are safe on all standard indoor flooring surfaces as long as you follow your flooring manufacturer's instructions and wait for proper curing times after refinishing.
What is a waterproof rug pad?
A waterproof rug pad creates a liquid resistant barrier between your rug and floor. Our SpillTech, Cloud Comfort, and Anchor Grip rug pads provide moisture barrier which will prevent liquids from reaching floors temporarily and gives you enough time to properly clean up pet urine stains or other accidental spills before they end up damaging your floors.
What material are your foam pads made of?
Cloud Comfort is made with 100% visco-elastic polyurethane foam. SpillTech is made with select rebonded foam. Cloud Comfort made in part with soybean oils and natural minerals. SpillTech is also hypoallergenic.
Will these pads prevent slipping?
No. Neither Cloud Comfort nor SpillTech will prevent rugs from slipping. They are designed for larger rugs (6’x9’ & larger) that often do not need a non-slip rug pad. Due to rug pad thickness, they aren’t ideal for smaller rugs as they will raise rugs too high off the ground and may create a tripping hazard.
I am looking for a waterproof pad for my basement concrete floor. I would like a pad that also has cushioning and is sturdy enough to have furniture placed on it. What do you recommend?
I've got a couple of suggestions for you. Our memory foam Cloud Comfort rug pad has a moisture barrier that helps with spills and leaks. Also, our SpillTech pad does the same fantastic job. Both will support your furniture and provide a very comfortable level of cushioning. One thing to note though is that heavy amounts of water coming from the bottom up would be a problem.
We have a toddler who spills everything. Which options are "waterproof"? We have engineered hardwood floors and a dhurrie rug that is. 9.5×13.
We have two options for waterproof padding: The Cloud Comfort, which is wate proof and very soft. The hihglight of this pad is that it comes as one piece. The other option is SpillTech, which is waterproof , but comes in two pieces that are taped together make a whole piece.
Is the SpillTech pad appropriate for a 6' x 9' Persian rug under a dining table on a hardwood floor?
The SpillTech pad wouldn't really work that well for your size of rug. Much better is the Contour Lock pad, although it isn't waterproof.
My newly refinished oak floors and 8' x 10' wool rug need protection from an older dog who has accidents. I’m not looking for a lot of grip so what is the best pad for me?
I recommend SpillTech or Anchor Grip. They are both waterproof pads that will temporarily prevent spills and pet accidents from reaching your floor. This will give you enough time to clean up any mess. SpillTech combines urethane foam with Scotchgard's Advanced Repel Technology.
Do you have pads that will protect hardwood from liquid spills and pet accidents?
Yes, we do have water resistant pads that provide temporary floor protection against spills and pet accidents. They are SpillTech, Anchor Grip, and Cloud Comfort.
What is a good pad for a large area rug? I don't want it to be a problem on hardwood floors, and it must be able to prevent dog accidents from soaking through. We have used felt with a moisture barrier in the past.
I would suggest our waterproof SpillTech rug pad. Its moisture resistant barrier will keep spills and pet accidents at bay giving you enough time to clean them up. This pad also has a special enzyme that eats away at unpleasant odors. SpillTech is safe to use on hardwood floors.
We have dogs and things happen. Which pad do you recommend to go under a small rug that will help protect our cherry hardwood floor?
We do have SpillTech which is a waterproof pad that also has a special enzyme to destroy odors. However, it is not a non-slip pad and is really for large rugs. Therefore, I recommend Anchor Grip which is also waterproof as well as being non-slip.
What pad do you recommend for a 9' x 12' jute rug with no backing on a hardwood floor? I need it to be spill resistant.
SpillTech and Anchor Grip are two very good spill resistant pads. Each one creates a moisture resistant barrier that temporarily prevents spills from reaching floors. SpillTech is 3/8" thick while Anchor Grip is 1/8" thick. This low-profile pad is also non-slip.
I mostly want a pad for cushioning but if it can handle spills that will be a bonus. We have a puppy that still has accidents. Any recommendations?
We do have a small collection of waterproof pads that excel at preventing spills and pet accidents from getting down to the floor. They provide a robust liquid resistant barrier that confers temporary protection. Of these pads, Cloud Comfort and SpillTech are the most comfortable, but they are not non-slip pads. Cloud Comfort is made of the same material as memory foam mattresses.
We have a 14' x 10' multi-colored natural reed/sisal-like rug on a freshly limed white wood floor. Our dog is prone to relieving himself on the rug so the red dye leaks through to the floor. Which pad will prevent this and do we need anything else?
I recommend SpillTech. This waterproof pad combines urethane foam with Scotchgard's Advanced Repel Technology to form a very effective barrier that will temporarily stop liquids from soaking through to your floor. This will give you ample time to clean up your dog's urine or any other liquid spills. You won’t need to place anything else under the rug. SpillTech is fine for your floor type, but if you want to double check I recommend contacting your floor's manufacturer to ask for their specific guidelines about what is safe to use.
I'm worried about moisture creeping up from a tiled basement floor and damaging my 11'6" x 22' oriental rug. Cushioning and slippage are secondary concerns. What product do you recommend?
I suggest the waterproof SpillTech pad, which will provide an effective barrier against the moisture. It has a thick layer of urethane foam with Scotchgard's Advanced Repel Technology.
Would a non-slip pad be OK for an 8' x 10' rug with a high pile?
Yes, a non-slip pad will be absolutely fine. One pad you could look at is SpillTech. This is available in 6' wide rolls. To make the 8' x 10' size this pad will come in two equal pieces taped together.
Is there a particular pad you recommend if there are pets that have the occasional accident? I have been considering the Superior Lock 1/4" to go under a wool area rug on a hardwood floor.
The best pad for pets that have occasional accidents is SpillTech which is made with Scotchgard's Advanced Repel Technology. Keep in mind that this is not a non-slip pad and we don't recommend it for anything smaller than 8' x 10'. Also, these pads come in 6' rolls and anything that exceeds this width would arrive as two equal pieces that are taped together to make up the rug size. As far as the Superior Lock pad is concerned, I would not recommend it getting wet because this will shorten its life. But if your pet did have an accident, I suggest cleaning it in a timely manner before it soaks through. This pad is not waterproof.
I am looking for a pad with a moisture barrier for a theater. What do you recommend? It will go under wall-to-wall carpet in a basement.
I recommend our SpillTech pad. This is a waterproof rebond pad that combines urethane foam with Scotchgard's Advanced Repel Technology. The end result is a very effective moisture barrier against stains and spills.
