Cushioned Rug Pads
Prolonging your rugs life: A cushioned pad will help prolong a rug's life by absorbing some of the foot traffic from everyday use. Rug pads wear from the bottom up, thus a dense cushioned pad provides a nice foundation for your rug, alleviating stress on your rugs.
More Floor Protection: The other big benefit of a denser, softer rug pad is added floor protection. Thicker rug pads offer more floor protection than lower profile pads. This helps with furniture scratching your floors. The other benefit of a cushioned rug pad is that it protects the floors from scratching rug backings and rug shifting. The back of rugs, especially handmade ones, can scratch up floors without a pad. A lush felt or memory foam pad will create a dense buffer to prevent this from happening.
Insulation & Sound absorption benefits: Similar to how cushioned rug padding helps protect floors and rugs, the added layer of cushioning helps muffle floor noise while providing more insulation benefits.
Layering: A nice benefit to having a more cushioned rug pad is that it gives the rug textured and layered look.

-
What is the density rating of your memory foam pad when it is 1/2" thick?
The density of the Cloud Comfort rug pad is 8lbs per cubic foot.

I have a 5' x 7' 100% polyester quality area rug on a bedroom’s hardwood floor. Is the dual purpose Superior Lock a good non-slip pad that also cushions? I want the rug to be comfortable when I'm sitting on the floor. Will 1/4" thickness be enough?
Yes, Superior Lock will work well for you. In addition to its strong grip, you will find the thick layer of cushioned support very comfortable when sitting on your rug. The 1/4" thickness will be sufficient.
-
Which pad do you suggest for an 8' x 10' flat woven polypropylene and cotton rug that's to go on an engineered wood floor? I would prefer a really cushy non-slip pad.
The Superior Lock 7/16" thickness is the best choice for your rug and hardwood floor. This felt and natural rubber pad will give you the plush cushioning you are after as well as a powerful gripping attribute that prevents common and irritating rug movements such as sliding.
-
I have a large needlepoint rug that I am going to put on a hardwood floor. What kind of pad should I use to hold the rug in place? I also want it to provide cushioning and protect my wood floor.
I would recommend the Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad. This pad provides gripping and cushioning and will not mark or damage your wood floor in any way.
-
My 8' x 10' rug is partially covered by a couch and a coffee table. It's worn and hard in areas where the dog sleeps. I need a pad for the entire thing or just the part uncovered by the couch. Basically, I want cushioning for my dog. Any ideas?
If the rug is anchored by furniture I would suggest an extra thick rug pad, like our Eco Plush rug pad which is made of 100% heat-pressed felt and is a great pad for cushioning. With regards to just cushioning a part of your rug, I'm not sure how to go about that.
-
Will Cloud Comfort work for my rug? I have a 4' x 4' shag rug with a 1" pile that will go on a hardwood floor. The rug is for a reading corner so we will be sitting on it a lot and I want something to provide a lot of cushion.
Cloud Comfort is a great pad, but it is not non-slip which is what I think you will need. I would take a look at our Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad. This pad comes in three different thickness and will give you the cushioning you want as well as non-slip traction.
-
How thick is your Eco Plush rug pad?
The Eco Plush all felt pad comes in three different thicknesses. They are 1/4", 3/8" and a 1/2".
-
Your Superior Lock rug pad looks plush and just what I need. If the carpeting is also plush, will it work?
While it will work, we really only recommend one pad for wall-to-wall carpet and that is Carpet Lock. It is 7/16" thick which is the same as the thickest Superior Lock pad. So it provides a plush feel and luxurious comfort as well as a powerful grip that stops rugs from moving.
-
What is the best type of rug pad to use on a hardwood floor that was sanded and stained a couple of months ago? I am looking for a pad with the best cushioning.
Superior Lock 1/3" or 7/16" thicknesses are going to give you the most cushioning. This felt and natural rubber pad will also provide your rug with some long-term protection and it is safe for your floor type. However, I do recommend you contact the manufacturer for guidelines on what is safe to use on their hardwood.
-
What is the best size pad to order for a 12' x 15' area rug on a hardwood floor? I am looking for the highest quality and good cushioning, and because the rug is expensive I want the best pad under it.
I have two excellent suggestions for you. The first is the Cloud Comfort 1/2" thick pad which is the most comfortable pad for your size rug and will come in two equal pieces. My second recommendation is our Superior Lock 7/16" thickness which also provides sumptuous comfort.
-
Can you make 10'x 10' felt rug pads? I need the thickest most durable felt material you have available. I would like four pads which I will be using for soundproofing in my studio. Please, send me the price for all four.
Yes, we can make these pads for you. If you were to purchase the Eco Plush 1/2" pad the cost would be $432.64. I also recommend looking at the Superior Lock and Cloud Comfort rug pads. These are our other soundproofing pads. To see how much they will cost, go to their product pages and plug in the dimensions you want.
-
I need a rug pad for a 7'10" x 9'10" area rug in my daughter’s room. We’re on the top floor of a condo so need something to cushion the floor and help with soundproofing for the neighbors below us when our daughter is playing. What do you recommend?
I recommend the Superior Lock 7/16" felt and rubber pad or the Cloud Comfort 7/16" memory foam pad. Both provide incredible levels of cushioning and support as well as offering soundproofing. They will greatly reduce the noise levels coming from your daughter's room.
-
I am considering your memory foam pad for an 8' x 11' rug. Would it come in one full piece or will you cut it into two pieces?
That pad would come as one piece.
-
I have a question about your Cloud Comfort rug pad. Is the sensation you get when standing on it the same as wearing memory foam shoes or sinking into a pillow or bed?
Yes, it is very similar. Cloud Comfort is made from the same material as memory foam mattresses so your feet will sink into the super softness. This really is a very comfortable rug pad.
-
Which is the best rug pad for stopping sound transfer between floors?
The very best pad for soundproofing is the 7/16" thick Cloud Comfort pad. This is made of visco-elastic memory foam and it is the densest pad we sell. It does a superb job of reducing and eliminating unwanted and intrusive noises.
-
Would we feel any difference between Cloud Comfort and Superior Lock when we are laying on a rug watching television?
Yes, I expect you would do. The felt in the Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad is soft but it's not as soft as Cloud Comfort which is a memory foam pad. This is made with the same material that you find in memory foam mattresses.
-
I'm looking for a comfort pad for an 8' x 11' area rug. What is the big difference between the Cloud Comfort rug pad and the Eco Plush rug pad? Can you feel this difference when they are under rugs?
Cloud Comfort is a memory foam pad and Eco Plush is a 100% all felt pad. With the former, you get a glorious soft sinking feeling while the latter is a little stiffer. Therefore, in terms of comfort, I would suggest Cloud Comfort because it is a lot softer than Eco Plush. It is made from the same memory foam that is found in mattresses and will not flatten out or lose that soft feeling. This pad comes with a 20-year guarantee.
-
Would the Cloud Comfort pad work well under a 5' x 7' rug in a children's room? This would be so the kids can play on the floor.
Cloud Comfort is our softest pad but your rug is too small for it. This pad is usually meant for larger rugs that don’t need protection from slipping. It is not non-slip and so there could be some issues with your rug moving. An alternative is Superior Lock 7/16". This pad is pretty soft so would also be good for kids playing on the floor. And it has a firm gripping attribute that keeps rugs in place.
-
I just want to make sure I order the thickest version of your Cloud Comfort pad. I believe it is the 7/16" thickness. Please, can you confirm that this is the thickest option?
Yes, you are correct. This is the thickest version of our Cloud Comfort memory foam pad. It will give your floor and rug a lot of plush cushioning.
