Customer Questions & Answers
I have a very thick shag type rug that will be put on stained concrete. There will be a bed on top of the rug so I don't think slippage will be a problem. What rug pad and what thickness do you recommend?
As you are not concerned about slippage I'm going to recommend the generous cushioning of the Eco Plush all felt pad. I suggest the 1/4" thickness.
I have radiant heated artisan cement floors and need rug pads that will not melt, harden or turn to powder. What do you suggest? I have a large, flat wool tribal rug, and am thinking of getting a medium-sized propylene rug with a 1/4" to 1/2" pile.
For your radiant heated floor, I would suggest either Contour Lock, Superior Lock, or Eco Plush. All three pads can easily handle the changing temperatures of radiant floors without degrading. The longest lasting of these rug pads is Eco Plush which is a 100% all felt pad. I only recommend this option if your rug is larger than 8' x 10' with furniture to anchor it down.
What is the most comfortable pad to use under our 10' x 17' rugs in high humidity areas such as a basement? It does not flood but it is extremely humid. I am worried about moisture and smells.
I would look at our Eco Plush pad. This heat-pressed felt pad comes with a lot of lush cushioning and performs well in areas of high humidity. It is resistant to mold, moisture, mildew and odor-causing bacteria.
I need a pad that provides a lot of cushioning and is appropriate for the finished masonry (brick) floor of a basement. While flooding is highly unlikely, it’s very humid down there and I’m concerned about water trapping and odors. What do you suggest?
Our Cloud Comfort memory foam pad should be ideal for your basement. Not only will it give you plenty of underfoot cushioning, but it is also a waterproof pad with a moisture barrier.
What is the best pad for a large, antique Persian rug that is worn in places and will be put in a busy area over a painted concrete floor?
Our Superior Lock 1/4" is the best choice for your rug and floor. The grooved natural rubber backing will hold the rug firmly in place to prevent movement when people are walking all over it.
What type of pad do you recommend for a 9'10" x 13' area rug on a basement's epoxy floor? There will be furniture on the rug, so I'm not too concerned about slipping. Also, will the pad be cut to fit or will I have to do it once it arrives?
I’ve got three suggestions for you and they are our Cloud Comfort, Eco Plush and Contour Lock pads. You don't have to cut them yourself because we will do it for free with our custom cutting service. Just enter your rug's dimensions and we'll make sure the pad is a perfect fit.
I have cold concrete floors and want to know if your rug pads provide insulation.
Our rug pads do provide insulation, but they are not intended for this purpose.
Is there a particular type of rug pad that should be used on concrete floors?
No, there isn't a special type of rug pad for concrete. You can go with any of our natural rubber pads (such as Super Lock Natural) or our 100% felt pads (such as Eco Plush).
What is the best product for a cotton rug on wood and a cotton rug on concrete?
For both floor types, I suggest Contour Lock or Superior Lock. These pads have strong, reliable gripping, but if you want more cushioning as well, go for the Superior Lock.
I've just got a new low pile 9'6" x 12'6" rug for my living room which has stained concrete floors. I would like to add some cushion and wonder if I should get a felt pad or one with both cushion and grip. What do you recommend?
I recommend the Eco Plush rug pad. This eco-friendly pad is made with 100% heat-pressed felt and will add a lot of cushion to your rug. Note that it is not a non-slip pad.
Which is your thinnest pad with the most grip? I am trying to decide between the Anchor Grip and the RugPro for area rugs and runners on a polished concrete floor. Also, can you cut a pad for an oval rug?
The Anchor Grip rug pad is slightly thicker than the RugPro but it has more grip. And yes, we can cut oval-shaped pads. All you have to do is select the pad, choose its shape and enter the exact rug dimensions and we will do the rest. With our free custom cutting service, we'll ensure the pad is a perfect fit for your rugs and runners.
My indoor/outdoor vinyl-backed mats slide on concrete floors. What thin profile pad will stop this? Also, I need a thin profile pad for a 10' x 14' Tibetan wool rug on a hardwood floor. Is there a pad that won't break down or stick to the floor?
I have several suggestions for you. For the indoor/outdoor mats, I would go with either the Contour Lock or the Superior Lock pad. Both possess a very firm grip that will stop your mats from sliding. For the 10' x 14' rug, I recommend the 100% felt Eco Plush pad, which comes in three different thicknesses: 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". Another option is the Anchor Grip pad which is a vinyl soybean oil-based polymer blend. There is also a felt and rubber pad called RugPro which is 1/16" thick and would work well for the mats and the rug. None of these pads will break down or stick to the floor.
Is the RugPro felt and natural rubber pad safe for concrete?
It is safe as long as you follow your floor manufacturer's guidelines. If you are unsure about using rubber, you can take a look at Anchor Grip. This is a vinyl polymer blend pad made from soybean oils. It's non-slip, 1/8" thick and safe for all floor types.
I have a plush 8' x 10' shag rug on a basement laminate floor. The front legs of a couch will sit on the rug, so I'm looking for a pad to add comfort without compromising the couch positioning. What do you suggest and will it be safe for my floor?
I recommend the 7/16" thick version of our Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad. That will give you a very comfortable amount of cushioning. This pad has an excellent grip too. If 7/16" is too thick for you, go for the 1/4" option. Superior Lock is absolutely safe to put down on your laminate floor.
I need a rug pad that can handle radiant heating in my concrete floors. What would you suggest?
We have a number of pads that are suitable for radiant heated floors. The changing temperatures will not cause them to degrade. Please take a look at Contour Lock, Superior Lock and Eco Plush.
I am looking for a very soft rug pad for an 8' x 10' rug on a concrete stained floor. I'd like it to be water resistant because we have a dog.
I've got a couple of suggestions for you. The first is Superior Lock 1/4" felt and natural rubber pad. This will give you soft cushioning and grip, but it is not a waterproof pad. My second suggestion is Anchor Grip, a soybean oil-based polymer blend pad. This waterproof pad has a plush feel and a strong grip and is fine for your floor type. Note that this pad is 1/8" thick.
Do you guys make any products that can be used under outdoor mats/rugs?
Unfortunately, at this moment in time, our rug pads are only for indoor use.
I need a good rug pad to go under a large but thin cowboy rug in my basement. It's on a cement floor, and there's no pad under it at the moment. What do you recommend?
I recommend our Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad. It will work well with your rug and floor, providing gripping and cushioning. As your rug is thin, I wouldn't go for a pad thickness greater than 1/4".
